Chemical Peels: The Key to Radiant Skin

Chemical peels are a powerful tool in rejuvenating and resurfacing the face, and are popular for those looking to refresh their appearance and achieve a new level of youthful radiance. Our specialists deliver radiant and clear skin with precision and expertise using our top three performing medical-grade peels. We offer several options for different skin types and concerns: The VI Peel, Refresh Peel, and Refresh Peel Plus. Medical-grade peels go beyond removing dead skin and work to refresh the skin by remodeling live skin. Our peels contain TCA, or trichloroacetic acid, Retin A, and Vitamin C at different percentages. TCA is non-toxic and has been used to perform chemical peels for years. It works by prompting the top layers of skin cells to peel off, exposing a new layer of undamaged cells, which give the skin a smoother texture and more even color.

Coming in For Your Chemical Peel

Chemical peels cause redness and flaking. We recommend planning them around a time in your schedule when you can avoid significant events or work engagements. Sun exposure is not advised. The VI peel is the lightest TCA peel, and the Refresh Peel is stronger. A consult is required before scheduling your first peel. Glycolic peels are available if you are looking for lighter peels. Also, check out our other treatments for dark spots and hyperpigmentation.

CHEMICAL PEEL

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Have a Chemical Peel?

All skin tones can be treated; however, pre-treatment with Even & Correct Advanced Brightening Cream may be required. If recommended, use Even & Correct Advanced Brightening Cream twice daily (morning + night) for two weeks before and two weeks after the peel.
Some may experience discomfort during the peel depending on which strength of peel you are having done. Most patients will feel some stinging. Advil or Tylenol can be taken before the peel. For those with a low tolerance for discomfort, the VI Peel is the least aggressive of our medical-grade peels.
The length of time can vary from a few minutes to 5 hours. The provider will direct you at the time of your visit.
We recommend you return home after the treatment as your face should not be exposed to the sun; however, with general sun precautions, you can resume your normal activities.
Typically, the face will have a red appearance after the application. You can be functional during the week of the peel; however, you should avoid major social or business engagements for the week. You will experience sunburn-type flaking and peeling. Intense sun exposure should be avoided during that week. The use of SPF and moisturizer is strongly recommended. Please check out post-care chemical peel guidelines.
Chemical Peels can be implemented into your monthly beauty maintenance routine—the doctor can discuss a plan that best suits your skin type.
When compared to laser peels, chemcal peels don’t penetrate the skin as deeply. Mutiple treatments are typically required, compared to lasers that only require one yearly treatment.

Info about sun exposure with a chemical peel

  • Before your peel, we want you at your lightest skin color. We do not want you tanning or using artificial tanners.
  • Stay out of direct sunlight until skin is completely healed.
  • If you are planning to vacation somewhere sunny shortly after your peel, wait to schedule your chemical peel.

A peel should not be done if you have any of the following issues:

  • Use of accutane within the past 6 months
  • Active herpes simplex (cold sores)
  • Facial warts
  • Current pregnancy
  • History of keloid or hypertrophic scars
  • History of sun allergies
  • Prior reaction to a peel
  • Recent radiation treatment for cancer
  • Sunburn or significant sun exposure in the last 7 days
  • Surgery or cryosurgery within the last month to the treatment area

When preparing for your peel, be sure to:

  • Stop use of Retin-A and all exfoliating products two (2) weeks prior to peel.
  • Stop any form of hair removal three (3) days prior to your peel.
  • If instructed, use Even & Correct Advanced Brightening Cream two (2) weeks before and two (2) weeks after your peel.

Please follow this post-treatment guide:

  • Remove the peel at the time instructed after in-office application.
  • Moisturize the treated area intensively until dryness is gone.
  • Use a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher every day over moisturizer.
  • Cortisone OTC can be used 7 days after to minimize redness.
  • Stay out of direct sunlight until the skin is completely healed.
  • Do not peel, pick, scrape or scratch the skin to avoid scarring.
  • Avoid the use of abrasive or exfoliation sponges and scrubs.
  • Use a gentle cleanser without any acids to cleanse the skin.
  • Dark spots can appear darker during the peeling process.
  • Inform the office if you have any persistent redness or brown discoloration three weeks (21 days) after the peel.
  • Do not use Retin-A for one month after your peel.
  • Do not have laser hair removal in the treated area for at least one month (30 days) after the peel.
  • Do not wax or pluck the treated area for two weeks (14 days).
  • If instructed, use Even & Correct Advanced Brightening Cream for two weeks after your peel.
  • You may start wearing make up the day after your peel if there is no crusting or tenderness.
